During the 2024 International N Gauge Show, NGN was able to take a close up look at the first EP samples for the forthcoming Dapol N Gauge GWR 63xx Mogul steam locomotive.
First announced at TINGS one year ago, the Mogul is planned to be the second of Dapol's next generation of steam locomotive models, with locomotive mounted coreless motor, NEXT18 DCC socket and tender space for a speaker. It was also the first, we believe, British outline N Gauge steam locomotive to be announced as having firebox glow effect fitted, although the Bulleid Light Pacifics and newly announced Manor will also share this feature.
The images here show the very first Engineering Prototype delivered to Dapol by the factory and these are used to ensure that the basic design is functional and identify any areas requiring improvement. Dapol have already stated that the boiler join is to be repositioned into a less prominent location, and have also identified other refinements to be made before the models enter production.
The Mogul will feature the following specifications:

Along with the new Manor and Light Pacifics, it's heartening to see progress on new Dapol N Gauge steam locomotives and keeping pace with current features and introducing new ones. We look forward to seeing further updates on these locomotives as they move forward!
